With the sleeping bag gone things start to get really simple backpack wise. I roll everthing up in my blue foam pad and laundry back and webbing straps that go over may shoulders and clip onto a fanny pack I carry in front. With this idea and a rain poncho / tarp you can essentially eliminate the weight of backpack, tent, and sleeping bag and go as light as 5 pounds food plus 5 pounds clothes and gear plus water for 3-4 days, 5 if the berry picking is good. I experimented with this on a single overnight bike/hike and it worked well except to bugs. I would like to try a bug bag that is like a giant laundry bag that maybe goes over the blue foam pad and keeps the pad and quilt and fleece blankets all wrapped up in one piece. Maybe some sort of foam hoop to keep it off my face.

I found a good trick for summer sleeping is to use a full size 72" x 28" Blue Foam Pad and stuff the bottom of it into a large stuff sack that sort of forms a tent so that it wraps around your feet and lower legs but still allows your feet to breath. With socks and fleece pants this is warm enough for the knees down so you can cover the rest of yourself a fleece poncho and down vest and the usual fleece hat & gloves or whatever and leave your sleeping bag home.
