BE SURE YOU'RE BUYING THE RIGHT FUEL! The older Gerry, Browning and Hank Roberts stoves used an LP (Liquid Propane) fuel can (Optimus #702 was the last available) with a rubber nipple, into which the stove's needle valve inserted. In use, the can sticks straight out from the stove. The Hank Roberts brand was more recently, briefly revived with a new connector, and uses Hank Roberts BUTANE fuel; a hose connects the stove and fuel. Backpacker's 2004 Gear Guide recommends using other, hotter butane brands in the new Roberts stove, suggesting that the new connector is industry-standard. However, it will not work, as is, with the original stove design. Nice find if you got the right stuff - and you're in great shape if you have the newer stove! Did you see any new HR stoves or conversion kits at that ACE?
