At 46 years of age and a regular backpacker i found stoves that use multiple types of liquid as the fuel are the best. If your going to far flung out of the way places, i suggest unpressurized types, as these have few complex parts to go wrong. If you do go for the unpressurized liquid type i suggest staying away from the hi tech ones, as you normally need the help of a postman to get the bits. Since 1970 (or there abouts) i've been using the Optimus 8R stove. Primative compared to the modern stuff, but more reliable because it has only one moving part, the on/off regulator. As with all fuel stoves, a funnel with a filter is more important the stove itself.
