Checked the bonnet catch for a micro switch, no switch or wiring to the catch. Above the o/s headlight fitting on the slam panel there is a 2 pin plug, took a chance and bridged with a 1 amp fuse, ign on and bingo oil light stayed out. Can only think car has had front end repairs and had the wrong bonnet catch fitted and the wiring left off. Thanks for all your help.
