We do it and have registered with a number of brands, Cant give exact details of how each brand works as my Brother does it.
Not new idea as Mazda have done this for many years, also has the advantage you can look up previous service details which is of course helpful if new customer
I would be very concerned about servicing car under warranty and not completing record. Like wise you are seriously devaluing resale value of car if service record is incomplete. Most systems wont let you back date records (above a few days) so needs doing at the time.
We charge customer £7.50 to up load info to digital service record shown as a separate item on the invoice. Not a big profit maker but should cover 1/2 wage of admin staff.
