I fitted a new chain, tensioner & all the guide rails for the camshaft chain, (left the oil pump & balancer chains alone).
I found the tensioner wasn't locking on it's ratchet. no other obvious fault, but the chain design was slightly different so obviously modified.
Cleared fault codes, road tested = all good, no EML, whereas before the EML and code returned immediately. Not the cheapest of jobs though, but used all VAG parts, no point messing and hoping with aftermarket bits on a job like that.
