"As ecstatic as I was when Corey Webster intercepted his pass in OT in the NFC Championship game..."
What????????? I don't know if you remember Larry McCarren, MC. He was the center for the Packers from 1973 to 1984. He played in 162 consecutive games and was nicknamed "The Rock" because of it. Anyway, he is now the sports director of a local Green Bay television station and has a local television program during the football season called "Larry McCarren's Locker Room". He reviews the Packer game from the previous week on his show and has a player guest each week. Last night they reran one of the shows from this year when Favre was on as a guest, which I didn't see when it originally aired. They broke down a couple of fairly long completions Favre threw against the Chiefs the week before, and it was very interesting. I always thought at least some of quarterbacking is just dumb luck, and watching the break down of those long completions proved it. They would stop the film right when Favre was about to release the pass, and the guy he was throwing to was double covered on both plays. All the "skill" involved was being able to throw the ball to a spot the receiver was likely to end up, and hope he outruns the defenders. There isn't a whole lot of margin for error, though, and if the receiver does something Favre (or any quarterback) doesn't expect, or if the pass is a little off, it's an interception. If the receiver outruns the coverage, it's a long gain or a touchdown. Over time the memory of the last interception in the game against the Giants will fade away.
