What are you, Bill, some kind of "liberal" who's soft on crime? This was a cold-blooded murder, where the perps brought a gun with them on a breaking and entering. It was not an accidental killing or an unintended consequence. If they didn't intent to shoot someone, why did they bring the gun?
Murder is a capital offense, which means the guilty party is subject to capital punishment. This is a case where the death penalty is amply justified, at least for the actual shooter who brought the gun along.
