I have just found out about a Standardbred horse in severe danger of going to the slaughterhouse on Friday. The driver is very mad at the horse because he didn't race well tonight...he is sending him to the killers...other trainers and I have been trying to talk him into selling him as a riding horse and he says no he is going to the Shipshewana sale on Friday and he is going to the meat horse section...is there really a specific section for meat horses? He is bringing two horses "Rosie" a 2 yr.old Standardbred roan/brownish looking filly....but he said Rosie is going in the regular section not the meat horse section..now back to the horse (he isn't gelded) his name is Gypsy ...he is a nice looking black (shiny) with a cute white star...his left knee will need some attention...it is larger than the other one...I snuck in the stall after he left and found that the inside of the knee is scalped....not scratched not scraped...scalped....I didn't see any bones but this wound will need to be covered most likely so it won't get infected. The owner said he is going to stop feeding the horse today....as in grain...he was eating hay in the stall...so he is getting hay just no grain...can someone help with this blatent cruelty? I am overwhelmed right now taking care of numerous stray cats and I've been saving up money to get them spayed...I haven't gotten very far...I have two older Thoroughbreds I'm taking care of too. I would like to take him but I really can't. If you want to buy him please contact me ASAP I'm not sure if he is shipping before Friday or not...I figured I'd give him a day to cool off...and actually he knows me and I think I can talk him into selling the horse other than as meat. Gypsy is 7 years old I believe, 15 hands and pretty. I had to pry the prices out of him he was so mad about the race....but from what I understand he will take $600 for Rosie and $450 for Gypsy....these horses are located at Lebanon Raceway in Ohio...that is between Cincinatti and Dayton. If you need to keep him at the racetrack it is $40 a month. I have connections that may be able to feed him/water him until you pick up. Thank you so much for reading this...any help appreciated...trailering, etc...this guy should not have horses! He said that Rosie would make an excellent riding horse. I think that Gypsy would too but he didn't want to say anything nice about him. I asked him what kind of personality Gypsy had and he actually said he has a beautiful personality. If you want to get Gypsy gelded it will probably be about $100....I can try and schedule that with the track vet. Jennifer please e-mail or call 859-396-4414 or local Ohio numbers can call 513-988-5562.
