Posted by Cheryll This game has cards with two related pictures. On the back are questions to answer. I concentrate on the the number 2 question which is: This has been very helpful to develop a solid vocabulary and improve critical thinking. Recently I realized that I could write the sentences down for the students and that we could work on combining them into more complex sentences instead of saying a series of very simple sentences. Eg. A cat and a dog are alike because they are both animals. They both have tails. They both are pets. I use this game from Kindergarten (using the very simple ones) to fifth grade.

I use this game all year long for vocabulary, comparing, categories, and now sentence combination: Hallie's Comet by Linguisystems.
How are ___ and ___ the same? Under the question is a series of short phrases about how the two items are alike. I have my students read the question to each other, while the other student looks at the picture. The questionee tells how they are alike, while the questioner reads the short phrases of how they relate. After the child is done, the other student names the phrases the other student may have forgotten.
New construction. A cat and a dog are alike because they are both animals with tails and both are pets.
