I have a student with this same problem. I started out by assessing whether or not he could "hear" the difference between /n/ and /l/. Then once that was established, I told him to only put the tip of his tongue behind his top teeth. I told him to drop his bottom jaw as far as he could and then lift his tongue. That really helped! Oral motor exercises helped with this as well. Hope this helps...
