If it is new, does the kid want something but lacks communication skills to tell you? Screaming probably does not serve as attention seeking if he is autistic. Have you tried sensory stimulation. Maybe screaming means "I'm over stimulated and can't calm down." Try swinging or deep pressure. Tap into your occupational therapist for ideas here. My autistic kid does great with a sensory diet and he may dismissed from speech next year---(this is his 6th year in school). Is he verbal? if not, try the Picture Exchange Communication system. It's cheap and easy to do if you can find someone who understands the concept behind it. You will need a minimum of two people--to fully benefit you will need "gobs" of people for this type of communication to be successful. What seems to have worked so far? These cases can be difficult.
