I would personally recommend the CELF-P if there is any chance that that the child is on the Autism spectrum. I have had children who demonstrated no delays or only mild delays on the PLS-4, and who when later retested with the CELF-P demonstrated severe delays. I had this happen with a parent who was vehemently denying that her child had autism and those initial PSL-4 results only served to reinforce her belief that he was a typical child with minor speech and language delays. I admistered the CELF-P after 4 months of therapy to help to support the assertion that he was much more seriously delayed than she was acknowledging.
