Actually, they're not subtests, they're stand-alone tests. For each age band there are tests given to arrive at a core composite, but you can pick an choose supplemental tests to test discrete skills and each will give you a standard score you can report alone. That is one reason that I like the CASL. Along with the reason you mentioned...
