I use games but not during the actual lesson part, for example if we are comparing how things are the same or different using don't spill the beans the students need to earn the beans, so they answer a question which gives me my data I mark an / if correct - if not + if needed help then when all the beans are gone from my pile we play the game. So it is really only played towards the end of the session, we don't play during the session because then I agree we loose what the purpose of the lesson is. I just feel that we are not entertaining the students but giving them some motivation to keep trying.
