I use games too sometimes as an ending fun activity but mainly as another therapy tool. If I use a game I tie it to our unit, work on problem solving, turn taking, etc. For example today I had some new games that I picked up from the thrift store. Each student had to think of something to do with spring before taking a turn (pop up pirate, crocodile dentist).
What I need to monitor in my therapy is the game hindering skills or expanding them. Sometimes the game may reduce the number of responses a student can make. I use a variety of materials such as the News 2 You, theme units, books, vocabulary pictures, boehm concepts, articulation pictures, etc.
