Hi! My state and school district are both working hard to comply with federal guidelines for identification. With that in mind, SLPs have been told to conduct more classroom-based assessments. We are to move away from giving standardized assessment only, and must now provide information regarding "assessments" that quantify how a suspected disability impacts a student's performance in the classroom. In the past we have conducted classroom observations and noted that a student experiences difficulty following directions, answering questions, struggles to provide information and so on. For articulation, we have stated that articulation errors render a student difficult to understand during classroom acitivities. Now we are being told that this information is not enough. Well, I've got a bunch of "standardized assessments," but am not sure what to do about "classroom-based assessments" other than a classroom observation. What are other districts requiring? What are you all doing to demonstrate negative classroom performance as a result of suspected disability????? Thanks!
