when i was doing my practicum working in a preschool program with kids with autism, the slp there would find objects that weren't very common but was visually appealing (dollar store items) and then put it in some sort of fun container. it was like a mystery box. the student would pull an object out and the slp would wait to see if the child would ask, "what is that?" if not, the slp would say, "if you want to know, ask me / say: WHAT IS THAT?" to help them ask where questions, i would bring in the child's favorite items but some parts would be missing. i'd put it in front of the child and see if he would look for or ask for it. if not i say, if you want to find _________, ask me, WHERE IS _____? hope that helps..
