.I lived in Bardstown, Ky(south of LOuisville) for 30 years. I grew banana trees and they are root hardy there. In the fall cut them down to about a foot above the ground. Cut the leaves and stems and cover the cut pseudostem with all the litter. Pile some leaves on top and wait til spring. They are root hardy like cannas. Just mulch good and they will return. They will not fruit by this method but you just fertilize and they will grow tall as before the following summer. This was my experience. I live in South Carolina now. I did not know the species or variety, but it is the common banana sold at lowes and all the other places tht sell the green banana.
