Sean,
I spent many days on small lakes and ponds in FL during Februarys when I coached collegiate baseball (13 years) when we took our teams to FL for spring training. We always had pretty good luck with fluke style bait in Golden Bream and Baby Bass colors. We had to figure out how they wanted them presented, but could usually find some action (my best was a Largemouth that went nearly 28 inches). I recommend a braided line around 14-17 pounds (weeds can be tough) and a strong hook (light wire hooks did not perform very well for us). This also worked well on waters were shiner fishing was popular. Hope this helps and that you catch the heck out of them.
Safe travels / tight lines,
Troy
