Originally posted to the main forum April 10, 2007. Our friend Richard has graciously consented to allow me to repost the only piece of smoking fiction that he has ever written. It was first posted to the Smoke Signals Story Forum a little over a year ago, several months before I opened this forum. Richard also submitted it to another SF Story Archive shortly after that (which cannot be linked here due to the fact that there are a number of stories by other authors that contain “underage” content), and it was also reposted to Matt’s New Dark Side Forum shortly after Richard first posted it. I am embarrassed to admit that I only discovered this story recently, but I cannot begin to tell you how impressed I am with it, and how much I enjoyed it! Not only is the narrative extremely well written, but the characters and events are very realistically handled and presented. While a work of fiction, I think that there is much in this story that many here will be able to relate to and enjoy, and much that is directly relevant to our discussions. If you haven’t had a chance to read this yet, you are in for a real treat. And if you have, I hope that you’ll take this opportunity to enjoy it again. Richard has indicated that he would be happy to discuss it in the context of this forum, and I hope that you will take the time to offer him your feedback and reactions, either here, or via email.
