I have a number(8)of large (20 ft) Trachycarpus fortunei that I germinated in 1973. All have been in the ground and survived winters to 0 degree F.
Last fall, 2009, one died. This year, two more died. I blamed it on the drought we have had although this is hardly the first. Then I was in Florence, SC and noted that 2 of my sister-in-law's windmills, and younger ones at that, had also died. Does anyone know of any problems attacking this species or is 40 years the end of their lifespan?
