I wouldn't expect Needles or minors to suffer much in Alexandria. A couple of pointers, though.
1. Needles should be planted June-July. Don't wait too late as they seem slow to settle in.
2. Plant Needles in dry areas. They, like Serenoa, seem adversely affected by wet earth in winter.
3. There is a spot in my yard where palms just seem to die. I don't know why-but I no longer plant there.
4. You might try a piece a rebar near the yucca to stake it up. I do this when the recurves get tall.
