I would like to replant a Chinese Windmill. It is about 6 ft tall, trunk being 4 ft. It is now over a septic tank and doesn't get good drainage. I want to at least raise it into a mound to improve drainage. It seems to do well except that it often loses its spear in the early spring despite being wrapped, but sprouts a new one. I hope this year is no exception, it pulled again this year. I believe poor drainage is why it loses its spear. Is replanting advisable and how much rootball should I need to prevent shock?
