I think you make a good point..And these same "traditionalists" don't realize that "traditional" plants like crepe myrtles and even petunias were introduced here as we're proposing with palms.
I think it may also be that people/landscapers don't know how to best attractively use the palms that thrive in Atlanta. They often think all palms will grow huge and look best in single or lined-up plantings.
Trachy (with its smaller stature) always looks best in groups of 3: Trachy's can be seen in grouped plantings like this along Sunset Blvd (LA) and the Pacific Coast Hwy (at Newport Beach). There's no reason metro-Atlanta does replicate such attractive examples. Trachy's live here without fuss.
FYI: I grew Live Oak outside at my old house in Atlanta and it grew fine. Its now huge.
