You have been given good advice. Fertilize the plant to force out new leaves,cut any brown leaves off 3 weeks later, and you should have a very fast new flush come out. People don't realize this, whether it is a cycad or just a landscape bush, fertilize the plant first, before you cut the plant back and you already have a push of energy coming into the plant before you remove material that may be helping provide energy from the sun to your plant. I have seen many people cut back a bush to much and kill it, where if they had fertilized it first, it probably would have survived. Maybe not as critical with cycads that have larger stems, but the idea still stands.
