Sabals need long hot summers to grow reasonable fast like Florida). In the TN climate, like my Atlanta area climate, they will grow real slow. It takes years for a seedling to start growing palmate leaves. They do speed up a little over time though. Your looking at probably 5-10 years for any real trunk to start forming from the first palmate leaf stage.
