Only one of my larger Trachies even blooms but seeds don't develop. Here's my question: how many palms are truly dioceous? I have only two Needle Palms and both produce flowers and fruit in abundance. And there's no other Needle Palm anywhere in my neighborhood that I know of. Clearly, I know nothing about the sex lives of palm trees! By the way I bought my 4 year old and in the ground Pindo palms after discovering them lying on their side in their containers in a John Deere Nursery in Birmingham, apparently having been lying there for at least two years with no watering, fertilization, etc. They were both in full flower when I bought them. After 4 years in wonderful soil and setting at my house they haven't bloomed once and quite frankly they don't look a whole lot healthier than they did when I discovered them. Seems to me that Butias maybe thrive better on abuse than coddling.
