I went out to look at it this afternoon and there are a couple of new spears visible and growing up from the center. They are both green, but all but one of the fans seen in that last picture are dried out now from their tips to about half way to the stalk. Today, the moisture meter shows about 4 on the high side of the slope and about 7 on the low side. The lady who sold the tree to me said to try to keep it at about 4 so it should be time to water it again within 24 to 48 hours. The reason I cut down on the water was because I felt that even with the summer heat and drought, those 3 long soakings per week couldn't be good for it while it was establishing its root system. I got concerned about root rot and / or drowning it. I know the dried-out fronds won't recover with any amount of water, but I have to make sure the new ones get enough to stay moist. I was also told not to fertilize any more this year, which is understandable going into the cold season. But I've been tempted to mix a pinch of Miracle Grow into its water at least once to give it a little vitamin shot while it tries to recover. Any thoughts?
