It probably was as Tom said someone threw it there and it thrived till the cold early 80's. I have looked for it since while fishing on the lake the past few years and not seen it again. Back during this same time frame there was a large Butia just inside Elijah Clark State Park in Lincoln County that bit the dust in the early 80's.

The USDA database is largely based on voucher specimens. In other words if a plant is not submitted it doesn't show up. I think there is perhaps more interest in submissions on the "edge" of the growing area than where it is common and no one gets excited about it.
