This area is probably 10-15 miles away from the Coastal Plain as the crow flies. Spanish Moss also extends up the Oconee at least to Milledgeville, which like Augusta straddles the Fall line. It may have gone farther north at one time, but if it did it was undoubtedly drowned out with the flooding of Lakes Sinclair and Oconee. I have not seen Spanish moss on the Ogeechee above about Davisboro, which is well below the fall line. In general, the distribution of Spanish moss seems to stop right about at the Fall Line. It doesn't seem to extend as far above it as Sabal minor does, which can be well into the Piedmont. It MAY be that at one time it did, but widespread land clearing (especially of valuable bottomland in the Piedmont, which has narrower floodplains) wiped it out.

There is an abundance of Spanish moss along the Savannah River in Columbia County as far north as the Savannah Rapids Pavilion in Evans. I'm not sure how far north it goes from there, though I can say that there is none visible from the GA 28 bridge (Furys Ferry Road) as it crosses from Columbia County into McCormick County, SC. That doesn't mean that it's not there, just that I haven't seen it.
