Surprisingly easy, as long as you've got a TALL ladder. They're easy to protect because you can bundle their fronds together very easily and then tie them producing a pencil like shape. Then wrap a couple of strands of rope lights from base to tip and cover with a layer of frost cloth. They can stay like that all winter. That's how I protect mine. Some palms seem to freak out when you cover them, and their leaves dry out or otherwise don't seem to do well (phoenix roebellini is a good example), but Queen Palms, Bismarkias and Canary Island Date Plams seem to flourish under their winter covers at least based on my experience.
