It's now the tallest in my collection, outgrowing even the Sabal palmetto palms that were installed the same year with 15 feet of clear trunk. I have two secrets to its success: water and fertilizer.

In the summer of 2004 I planted a Syagrus romanzoffianum that I had grown from seed that I got from Uruguay in 2000. I had given the seedling to Hayes Jackson, who gave it back to me when I moved to St. Marys in 2003.
