Where in KnoxVegas are you? I'm off of Western Ave., just west of I-640. My neighbors planted two Washingtonia robustas last year (I gave them the palm bug, I'm afraid), and they both made it through the winter. I say go ahead and plant it now, instead of waiting another year or two. Your going to have to protect it anyway, so why not? I can give you some ideas about protection, just email me (click on my name above). You should definitely check out Will T.'s place in Athens, btw! There are some plantings around town that I can show you also, including 16 palms I planted on campus (UT) last year.
