I've kind of done the same, Einar, in my yard. I planted Acacia, Brahea sps, some Phoenix, Oleanders, Succulents/Aloes and Agaves in remote areas that I can water if I have to. I'm currently setting up a sprinkler system with the generous help of a neighbor and fellow SPS member to help out the more water loving species.
