Posted by Jeff S, Apison TN on April 15, 2007, 9:18 am, in reply to "chattanooga nursery" A good place to start is Ponds and Plants in Dayton. Thay carry most cold-hardy palms, including some rare ones like Sabal sp. 'Birmingham'. Varnell Nursery in Cleveland occasionally carries cold-hardy palms, though I didn't see any there last fall. Several nurseries in Chattanoonga carry windmill palms -- I think Holcomb and Southern Homes and Gardens. (Call first.) But a few sell non-hardy palms like Phoenix alongside the hardy palms, so be sure to ask for hardy palms (Rhapidophyllum hystrix, needle palm; Sabal minor, dwarf palmetto; and Trachycarpus fortunei, windmill palm) by name. And there will be a spring plant sale at the SPS meeting in Beaufort, SC on April 21 if you feel like making a trip to a great coastal location. All the best,
