Posted by NancyG I do feeding in the schools as well, so I appreciate your position. One resource that's been heaven sent for me is a very thick soft cover book called PreFeeding Skills by, I believe, Suzanne Morris (I don't have the book right in front of me). This book has a wealth of information on feeding therapy for a variety of disorders. Also, will you be conducting this tx in the therapy room, classroom or lunch room? You're setting will dictate what and how much you can do. When working on chewing, I have found that the "slow feed" method works well. If you find a safe crunchy food (such as graham crackers or other food that is crunchy but disolves) that the child likes, you can present a portion of the food to the child's molars to take a bite. Then, instead of taking it away, keep the item on the molars and have the child take successive bites from it. This works well to teach munching as the child will continually take bites of the cracker. Hope this helps.
