You may find it helpful to contact your local school's Special Education Dept. to locate resources within your community who can help with the differential diagnosis required in this case. Students who have ADD can share some of the same kinds of poor social skills present in those students with Asperger's. A skilled diagnosis would be helpful. Other sources that may be helpful are:
www.icdl.com
www.patientcenters.com/autism
www.autism.com (with links to Autism Network Resources)
A skilled diagnosis can help with services in the school setting that may benefit your grandson. This could possibly include an educational plan (IEP) designed to meet his needs. Any assessment requested should be conducted free of charge at the parent's or guardian's request. Some services that children with Asperger's may need include those provided by special education teachers, social workers, psychologists, and speech&language therapists. Your local ESA or ISD or school district should have free literature or information for you on these subjects to access.
Good luck to you and your family.
