I too have 2 severe MR classes along with some multiple handicaps including autism and blindness. One of the classroom teachers has no experience with this population so we are searching for ideas together. The first project we are doing together is to make a book for each child to go along with the Brown Bear Brown Bear book. I am using the Boardmaker computer program to make up augmentative pics for each word. The teacher is making the booklet and will draw the outline of the animal on the page. We will do a group and do one page a day. Textures will be glued on the animal outlines such as feathers glued on the outline of the duck. Each day the story will be read and those kids who have sight will follow along with the pictures. Those who are blind have the tactile input. The book will be read daily as new pages are added. If it goes well, we'll try another book too. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
