I have a 12 year old that doesn't want to use any form of communication assistance. She just doesn't care if anyone understands her or not.
She is currently using an ipad, with the Proloquo2go app on it. You can import PCS pictures and create your own communication device on it if you want. The app is less than $200, and way more effective than a costly communication device.
