Remind teachers that while signing is wonderful, it has limited applications for hearing children in the general community. A student cannot order his chicken nuggets, fries and a shake at McDonald's using signs because, sadly, he will not be understood. If the issue is truly related to functional vocabulary, perhaps more appropriate vocabulary can be added to the PECS book.
