Two of my students got their communication devices through a private insurance. Basically, they had to do an AAC/AT assessment to make sure they're able to navigate through the device and use it functionally and purposefully.
Their insurance (not sure about the name) is paying for the devices.
You might want to suggest to the parents to look into that. It is possible.
