I have a student who is 5 and will be going to kindergarten in the fall. He has autism, but is very high functioning with minimal verbal output. He has made soo much progress this year with his verbal output and imitation skills as well as starting PECS and is now in phase 3, almost 4. He is extremely smart, very good receptively. I borrowed a Vantage AAC device from another county and he took off with it amazingly fast! I think the device is nice, but it had some faults, although he did amazing well...took right off scanning and finding things, even putting together sentences say "I want _____!! Any suggestions of devices that I might look into?? My county is very low-income and I know that I will have to apply for a grant to get it and I want to make sure I get the right one to meet his needs. There just aren't very many in WV to borrow and test out with him. Thanks for any help you can pass along!
