You can go with PECS, Boardmaker or whatever picture communication symbols you want. Start during snack time and have your student begin to request the snack he wants. Don't let the teacher dump all the food on the table in front of him. If you start with getting a single sound great. Go from there. Add a photo of the snack and have him point to it prior to getting something and model the sound. He will be mad at first, but will get the idea VERY quickly when he doesn't get anything if he doesn't request first.
