So today I worked with the classroom teacher and worked on basic vocabulary with the middle school students. We went around the room and I asked them "where is the..." and then pointed to a written word on a sheet (like chalkboard, desk, computer, etc.) and they would have to not only read the word, but know what it means (show us where it is) and then attempt to voice the word. The kids know the signs for all these words, but they have great difficulty knowing from a written or fingerspelled word. The kids seemed to enjoy it, as they saw it as a game and hopefully they will learn if we "play" this game every week.
Does anyone else have good ideas for working with hearing impaired students? Working on vocabulary or articulation?
