Non-verbal autistic student

I have a non-verbal autistic student. He is in Kindergarden. He has no signs and has never used any time of communication device. The only vocalizations he makes is a "g" sound but its not or communication purposes. I have no idea where to start with him. His IEP goals are to use a total communication approach and to begin imitating sounds. I want to teach him signs and begin using pecs. I am going to a pec training but that is not until January. So until then I have no idea how to begin teaching him signs or using pecs. Any suggestions???
