When using a comm. book you want the verbal, but according to PECS it is not necessary. If it occurs then great, but at the training I went to the instructor indicated that verbal isn't the main aspect we are looking for-it's the interaction and communication (which comes from the use of the book/pics).
I agree you should invest in a PECS training if you haven't already. I learned alot of new and helpful things to do w/ non-verbal kids.
