could you provide more information about the boys --- are they at the level of understanding picture symbols? Sensory based communication techniques are really motivating by incorporating sounds, smells, touch, and taste. Speaking of taste, have you tried to incorporate some highly-motivating activities like cooking or adapted books? Its all about what is motivating to them and before you can provide treatment, it takes time to get to know them to see what they like.
