Posted by teach2speak Find out what they 'don't like' about PECS. They may not have a full grasp of what it offers. I have worked with many children with autism and visuals WORK. I have a 7 year old girl that remained nonverbal until we started the PECS with her, she is in a regular 2nd grade class with support from her aide and the developmentally delayed program. She is doing amazingly well. Don't discount PECS all together -it's not fair to that child. They learn differently than most children.And....they are NOT autistic children they are children with autism.

I agree with the use of clinical observational skills especially the child's play skills or lack thereof as well as overall social skills/lack.
