I have found that therapy relating to tongue thrust has varied over the years. In spite of these varying procedures, the best explanation was given to me by a dentist who did also some orthodontic work. He explained that the first step would be to make structural adjustments within the mouth. Widening would make it possible for the tongue to stay within the oral cavity. If the mouth is significantly narrow and high, where is it to go but out? Speech therapy may be necessary later in the process.
